FIVE33′s Friday Fix

It’s been a pretty hectic week but, lucky for us, it has been sprinkled with some beautiful (and sometimes sparkly) things.

The Spring Summer 2011 look book from Christian Louboutin is far from a catalogue of shoes. This is the second time that Parisian photographer Khuong Nguyen has worked with the luxury shoe brand and his ‘Louboutin Spring Summer Tour’ gives these designer shoes a life of their own. It doesn’t take much for us to get excited about shoes but these photos had us lusting after these red-soled lovelies…

This week is always one of our favourites for fashion – the Spring / Summer couture shows in Paris.

Monday’s opening shows did not disappoint. The vintage feel of the Christian Dior collection was inspired by the illustrations of Rene Gruau and brought a new twist to the classic ‘New Look’ of the 40s. Shown at the Musée Rodin, John Galliano’s collection was a work of art indeed.

Armani Privé took us in a totally different direction. Architectural and futuristic, this was a collection of high gloss, iridescent jewel colours. The red carpets of 2011 won’t know what has hit them!

Talking of red carpets, this week also saw the Oscar nominations revealed. Whilst we were dismayed to see that Christopher Nolan got no best-director nod for his extraordinary work on Inception, we were very pleased to see that Alice in Wonderland has been nominated for both Art Direction and Costume Design. Our fingers are crossed for Colleen Atwood whose amazing costumes and sketches formed the basis for our Alice in Wonderland tour last year.

Last up this week is this slightly eerie but beautifully cinematic video from UK band Metronomy. Sit back and enjoy while the story rewinds.

FIVE33′s Friday Fix

The Fall/Winter Menswear shows are in full swing, Milan has come and gone and now it’s Paris’ turn to take center stage… which it managed to do with a little  help from a certain Mother Monster!

Thierry Mugler has become a brand that, in recent years, has been better known for its fragrances than its fashion. This all changed on Wednesday when new artistic director Nicola Formichetti unveiled his first collection for the brand.

Formichetti is best know as the driving force behind the ‘Haus of Gaga’ and his collaboration with the 1st Lady of pop certainly increased the hype around his first show (the video of the show crashed the Thierry Mugler site due to user demand).

The Mugler collection featured simplified tailoring, veils, tattoos and latex . . . lots of latex! The show felt understated but ground breaking at the same time, a mix of old school glamour mixed with the sense of a dark underworld.

Naturally the show was sprinkled with more than a handful of Gaga magic. The show’s soundtrack was provided by the lady herself – the first ever play of a track from her upcoming (and eagerly awaited) album ‘Born This Way’. The remix of Scheiße accompanies a video of Rick (aka Zombie Boy) wearing some of the collection and was played during the catwalk show.

Here at FIVE33 towers we love a good collaboration, so the girls in the office were all pretty excited when they saw the latest collection from MAC who have joined forces with DC Comics.
Due to hit the shelves in the next couple of months this limited edition Wonder Woman collection certainly is super!

Continuing our love of collaborations is a track from the Beth Ditto EP.
Produced by Simian Mobile Disco (a FIVE33 favorite) the EP is available as a 12-inch vinyl and as a download from Beatport.com with a full international release set for March. We’re finding it hard to choose which track we like the most but at the moment ‘Open Heart Surgery’ is winning!

Finally it was with much joy that we saw the announcement of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming ‘The Dark Knight Rises’. Dare we say purrfect casting?

No. No we don’t.

Have a weekend packed with epic wins, and we’ll see you in seven.

FIVE33′s Friday Fix

The Friday Fix is back, 2011 style!

Though it may seem a bit late in the day to be discussing new years resolutions, team FIVE33 resolve to bring you only the best, hottest and most aesthetically pleasing things that are influencing us this year… and to try and cut down on chocolate*.

Keen to start as we mean to go on, we simply had to share this video with you.

Not only does it combine some of our favourite things; Designer fashion (Balmain) and our undisputed all time favourite model (Kate Moss), it also incorporates some beautiful animation.

While shooting the FW 2010/2011 campaign for Balmain, photographers Inez & Vinoodh set up a hidden camera which captured Moss’ performance on set. Adding illustrations by Jo Ratcliffe and a soundtrack from Antony and the Johnsons this short becomes much more than just a ‘behind the scenes’ of  Moss at work it becomes a glimpse into a twisted 21st Century fairytale.

Amsterdam based brand agency THEY have created their own brand of Champagne. Never ones to turn down a glass of bubbly we were intrigued by this new brand, called Zarb.

‘Zarb’ is French slang for ‘bizarre’ and they’ve certainly brought a bizarre twist to the table, collaborating with artists to create these amazing bottles. If you order a bottle of Zarb your night out is guaranteed to be a much more flamboyant affair – and flamboyance is so 2011.

A new year always brings out ‘ones to watch’ lists and, we’re seriously excited about the winner of both the BBC sound of 2011 and the Critic’s choice award at the Brits, Jessie J.

Touted as the UK’s answer to Lady Gaga, (no pressure then!) Jessie has certainly made an impact.

Her current single ‘Do it like a Dude’ blends all the raw fashion of an early Gaga video with undisputed London swagger… but it doesn’t end there, visit Jessie’s Myspace and check out her other tracks (‘Who You Are’ is a particular favourite). You might be surprised, but you certainly won’t be disappointed.

That’s a taste of all that’s sparking our imaginations this week… join us in 7 for another monstrous Friday Fix…

*We might not actually cut down on chocolate.
