FIVE33′s Friday Fix

In honor of Super Bowl Sunday, a Friday Fix for the party animals among us – we sneak a peek at the big game’s blockbuster spots, ‘The Bear’ scores top advertising awards, ‘Menswear Dog’ teaches an old blog new tricks, Kermit gets the band back together for ‘The Muppets… Again’, we go ape over the new LOVE photos and Jamie Lidell’s beastly new beats. Everyone’s a winner.

As Super Bowl Sunday approaches, the marketing world will be focused on the commercial breaks rather than the game itself. With a 30-second spot reportedly costing a whopping $4m, the pressure is on to produce something standout. The blogosphere is feverishly buzzing as 2013′s biggest blockbusters plan to make their mark, including Star Trek Into Darkness, World War Z, Oblivion, Iron Man 3, Oz The Great and Powerful and The Lone Ranger, to name a few. Stay tuned – there are sure to be some BIG surprises in store.

World War Z is breaking out, dropping this high-octane 30-sec teaser (with the full-length cut set to appear during the pre-game show). Brace yourself – this epic-scale international crisis hits hard:

Meanwhile Star Trek Into Darkness goes digital, stoking the brightly-burning fires of fandom with an innovative new app that allows users to enroll in Starfleet Academy and complete a variety of games, tasks and scavenger hunts to unlock bonus content. Download now – the experience kicks off on gameday.

And of course, Tony Stark is never one to miss a party this big. A new poster shows the smart-mouthed smooth talker falling from the sky, his suit shattering to pieces in a cloud of smoke. The short but sweet trailer reinforces the idea that there is trouble in paradise, as the chinks in his armor begin to show. Watch the IM3 Super Bowl spots (yes, SPOTS) to see for yourself.

The Gunn Report reveals the most awarded advertising of the last 12 months, and top of the list is a commercial from the French TV station Canal +.
A mixture of behind-the-scenes documentary and a Game of Thrones style battle, “The Bear” sets the advertising bar pretty high – we’ll have to wait and see if the Super Bowl spots live up to new gold standard:

From a bear with directing clout to a canine with a nose for fashion. . . Menswear Dog is rapidly becoming the blogger of the moment. Bodhi is a 3-year-old Shiba Inu, and with a little help from co-founders Dave Fung and Yena Kim he’s taking the fashion world by storm. Looks like Bodhi is quickly becoming menswear’s best friend.

From dogs to frogs, our favorite talking froggy Kermit (and his doppelganger nemesis) will be back on the big screen in 2014. Following the success of the gang’s return to the big screen in 2011, The Muppets . . . Again!  features all of our favorite characters alongside human co-stars Ricky Gervais and Tina Fey. In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kermit dishes a few insights into what the film has in store.

More often than we care to admit, a fashion shoot becomes the topic of discussion here at FIVE33 – sometimes it’s the photographer and sometimes it’s the subject matter. This week LOVE Magazine left us speechless. Shot by Mert & Marcus, the incredible image of Kate Moss is just the start. Check out the images of the fast-rising Cara Delevingne and Kick-Ass 2 costar Chloe Moretz – Love is an understatement.

Jamie Lidell mixes his sinfully soulful voice with electronic beats on his latest single ‘You Naked’ (off his self-titled album, out on February 18th). The video sees Jamie performing inside a custom-built lightmapped cube which creates a spectacular light show  – so spectacular that it’s going on tour with him starting in March.

Have a ‘super’ weekend, we’ll see you next Friday. Go (insert your Super Bowl choice here)!

FIVE33′s Monday Fix

We make it to The World’s End in the company of Brad Pitt and Coldplay for a limited edition Monday Fix of pop culture finery. Monday’s the new Friday, dontchaknow.

As the third installment of our beloved ‘Blood & Ice Cream’ trilogy reveals an apocalyptic new poster, it marks the end of an era for our favourite Brit-Com dream team. ‘The World’s End’ promises all the wit and satire of an Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg script and a cast that includes some familiar faces from both Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. What better way to celebrate the end of days than with a pub crawl?

Here at FIVE33 we’re very passionate about Britain (it’s our birthplace after all) so we were very happy to discover the Brilliant Britain guide that has been created by luxury brand Mulberry. Promoting ‘greatness’ from across the country and published in both a printed guide and an online (constantly evolving) site, it’s a home away from home.

Brad Pitt is fashion’s man of the moment it would seem. Not only has the eagerly anticipated Chanel No.5 commercial just been released (for which he has reportedly been paid $7million)

Interview Magazine has just unveiled an unbelievable shoot featuring the many faces of Mr Pitt. Like a fine wine, he just gets better with age…

Taking us on an animated journey into the week, Coldplay are expanding their reach beyond music and into the world of graphic novels. Hurts Like Heaven is the prequel to the story of Mylo Xyloto which will be told via a 6-part comic series. Superheros with a rock and roll edge – if that doesn’t sum up our personas nothing does!

Normal fix service will be resumed this Friday!

FIVE33′s Friday Fix

The Friday Fix delivers the heat: Tim Burton’s ‘Art of Frankenweenie’ Exhibit goes global, Secret Cinema puts the ‘edible’ in incredible, Guillermo del Toro reveals what lies beyond the ‘Pacific Rim’ and the new ‘Sinister’ trailer gives us the shivers. Plus the art of Andre Wee and a new video from Passion Pit. Take that, June Gloom!

We are incredibly happy that our latest touring exhibit has finally hit the road. The Art of Frankenweenie Exhibition captures the magic of the filmmaking process and gives audiences an exclusive glimpse into the stop-motion animation process brought to life by visionary filmmaker Tim Burton.  From original sketches to extensive props, sets and puppets, the exhibition showcases the artistic detail and vision that has gone into bringing this heartwarming tale to the big screen in the highly anticipated Fall release.

The Art of Frankenweenie Exhibition delves into the world of a boy who, inspired by science and the love of his best canine friend, brings his beloved pet back from the dead. We’ll be following the tour as it travels around the globe (next stop Comic-con), but if you can’t wait to see it take a look at this:

From the new album Gossamer, set for release on July 24th, comes the new Passion Pit single ‘Take a Walk.’ The sky-soaring video gives us a whole new perspective of the world as we bounce over buildings and into the blue skies above. Our heads are in the clouds, and we don’t want to come down just yet.

Andre Wee is a 22 year old design student who has caught the eye of the creative world with his beautiful work. He describes himself as ‘sleep deprived from work but very oddly happy’ which explains the dream like quality of his work.

Here at FIVE33 we’ve got a not-so-secret love of movies that make us jump out of our seat, and it looks like Sinister aims to do just that. The movie, starring Ethan Hawke, won over critics and fans at SXSW earlier this year, but don’t take their word for it – or even ours – check it out for yourself.

Just when you thought the British phenomenon Secret Cinema couldn’t get any cooler, they join forces with the eclectic Electric Cinema and make the moviegoing experience edible! Our two favorite things, together at last. ‘Edible Cinema’ is based on a simple concept: the audience is given a series of numbered ‘packages’ before the start of the film. At specific points during the screening, large placards with corresponding numbers are shown to the audience instructing them to consume the contents of the packages. It’s not just about dinner and a movie; the smell, texture, even the way your mouth feels afterwards corresponds to what’s happening on screen, heightening the viewers’ sensory experience. First up is Guillermo Del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth. Finger-licking fun.

Speaking of Guillermo Del Torro, this week the pioneering director has been talking exclusively to US magazine Total Film about his latest project Pacific Rim. Trust us when we say, something big is on the horizon…

Have a very happy (and sunny) Father’s Day Weekend!
