The new ad for sneaker specialist Footlocker gives us a glimpse of a more entertaining shopping experience – and who doesn’t want that? Throw on your pumped up kicks and show off your fancy footwork.

Last weekend saw the opening of the Tokyo Hotaru Arts Festival, and rather than launching with an exclusive party for the select few, the organizers (with a little help from Panasonic) invited the entire city to float 100,000 LED lights down the Tokyo river. The eerie, bioluminescent blue hue weaving through Toyko made for a stunning sight.

Bring the Payne! The long-awaited release of Rockstar Games’ Max Payne 3 has been one of the most highly anticipated video game events of the year. Back after a nine year hiatus, the former New York City detective finds himself in truly cinematic surroundings and proves that he’s still the biggest bad ass out there. We can’t wait to get our hands on a copy and see if it lives up to the decade-long hype.

Clearly, a lot can happen in a week – and according to this French advert for Playboy shower gels, a lot can happen in an elevator too! You’ll never want to take the stairs again.

In a week where the world says a fond farewell to such visionary geniuses as Maurice Sendak and Vidal Sassoon, their legacies live on through the next generation of creative talent. 24-year old Canadian Claire Boucher unleashes her alter ego Grimes, establishing herself as one of the hottest musicians of 2012. The video for her latest release ‘Nightmusic’ is everything we’ve come to expect from this off-the-wall performance artist.

Instagram enables everyone to show off their creative side (or at least put retro filters on their smartphone snapshots). In their latest campaign, the iconic Italian sportswear brand Ellesse Heritage invites creatives to a month long photo-a-day challenge. Drawing inspiration from a wide array of themes from ‘colour’ to ‘nostalgia,’ entrants can show off their photos using the #CityPortraits hashtag. Don’t just seize the day – upload it!

While we’re on the subject, one of our favorite photographers is the endlessly-creative Rankin. This week saw the second issue of his publication Hunger, featuring Irish Misfit Robert Sheehan on the cover. It’s been a lengthy hiatus, but your friendly neighborhood meth dealers are back in business. AMC’s Emmy-winning Breaking Bad returns this summer to heat up the silver screen, and a new viral campaign has already begun feeding the addiction. Breaking Gifs harnesses the elemental power of the periodic table, uncovering exclusive art and first-look content hidden across the web. With only 2 short seasons left in the series, we’ll take all the Breaking Bad we can get our hands on. Be sure to check back in periodically for the latest reveals. Breathing life back into the PC gaming scene this week is the astonishing Diablo III, taking the ‘long’ in long-awaited sequels to new lengths. Starting development way back in 2001, the notorious perfectionists at developer Blizzard certainly kept us waiting, but it looks like it might have been worth it:

With summer blockbusters right around the corner, it’s been an epic week in the world of movies. The Avengers triumphed in the battle of the international box office and braces for a mighty opening weekend in the states, Ridley Scott unveiled a 3-minute spectacular for Prometheus, and – in case you’ve been living under a Batcave – the latest Dark Knight Rises payoff trailer packs a punch (check it out on our Facebook page).

Indeed, 2012 is shaping up to be a super-sized summer on the big screen – with a playlist to match. This week the queen of ethereal hymn-pop, Florence Welch, released a song off the soundtrack of the highly anticipated Snow White and The Huntsman.  Accompanied by a 110-piece orchestra and a full choral section, ‘Breath of Life’ just might take your breath away.

Nike‘s new promo video takes the ‘Just Do It’ mantra one step further. ‘Make it Count’, created by filmmaker Casey Neistat, forefronts the Nike+Fuelband, a stylish and sporty wristband that monitors your daily activity and charts a personal fitness program. Going the extra mile, Neistat traveled the world in 10 days and recorded every moment of his heart-racing journey.

These days, a future dominated by artificial influence is more science fact than science fiction (David 8 is just the beginning). The latest Call of Duty ‘Black Ops 2’ trailer takes the robot revolution one giant leap further – in a world where autonomous armies have been created, ‘what happens when the enemy steals the keys?’ True to form, the cutting-edge FPS aims too close to home.

We here at FIVE33 are keeping our fingers crossed for a less apocalyptic future, especially if we all get to wear a cape. The Romance Was Born collection at Sydney’s MBFWA (Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia) was a collaboration with comic book gods Marvel, turning super models into super heroes – a fanboy’s dream come true. Saving the world never looked so good.

The latest video from electronic motherfunkers Chromeo takes us on an animated nighttime road trip, providing the perfect upbeat anthem for your weekend.

Atomaton of the moment Michael Fassbender comes to (artificial) life in one of the year’s most hotly anticipated movies, Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. David 8 is the latest in Cybernetics from Weyland Industries. As this brilliantly realized transmedia extension shows, David can do almost anything that could be asked of him . . .

David 8 isn’t the only piece of artificial intelligence on our radar this week. The ‘holographic’ resurrection of rapper Tupac at Coachella last Sunday night too the festival by storm and had twitter ablaze.

Fashion house Burberry has wholeheartedly embraced the world of social media and their latest campaign for eyewear is no exception. Everyone knows that a true rock star isn’t complete without a cool pair of shades which is why these up and coming bands have made exclusive music videos  (wearing Burberry eyewear, naturally!) Released every week in April, ‘Life in Film’ are our favorite band so far.

Hot new Swedish singer Beatrice Eli is top of our playlist this week. Tomboy cool with an urban twist: the perfect start to the weekend.

There you go — everything you need to party hard whilst pondering the nature of existence. Sounds like a friday to us.

Draw Something has taken over our digital lives, but we fell in love with a much more sophisticated drawing app this week. Refining the art of doodling, the stylus-powered Paper provides a variety of pens and brushes that empower you to draw yourself silly, then share your masterpieces across Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr. Check out the launch video and you’ll be drawn in.

On the subject of beautiful things, this week saw the long awaited release of  Drake and Rihanna’s latest collaboration ‘Take Care,’ directed by the truly talented Frenchman Yoann Lemoine (known for Lana Del Rey’s  Blue Jeans and  Born to Die,  Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream and the amazing Iron by Woodkid). True to Lemoine form, the video is shot in black and white and features unusual (even unexpected) animals moving in slow motion, creating an eerie backdrop to this love song.

Katniss Everdeen wasn’t the only one catching fire over the weekend. Saturday night, artist Cai Guo-Qiang marked the opening of his exhibition with quite a bang. “Mystery Circle” was a spectacle of over 40,000 fireworks lighting up the LA skyline ahead of his new show ‘Sky Ladder,’ now featuring at MOCA until July 30th.

Speaking of blowing up this week, TV network TNT preps to launch in Belgium, and what better way to blast your life full of drama than with a big red button. Do you dare to press it?

Not all of us were lucky enough to get our hands on Coachella tickets this year, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss all the fun. Thankfully, YouTube will be live streaming sets from this year’s festival on their dedicated Coachella page (bookmark it). The stacked lineup kicks off with GIVERS today at 3:50pm (PST) and ends strong with Florence + the Machine Sunday at 9:45pm (PST). Between the crowds, the weather and the sheer pandemonium, watching from home might be the best seat in the house.

21 year old singer Rita Ora (the latest object of our desire) is destined for great things. Her new single ‘R.I.P.’ features Tinie Tempah and was produced by the dub stepping geniuses Chase & Status.  Signed to Jay-Z’s label RocNation, could she be the UK’s answer to Rhianna? Only time will tell.

We love it when good things pop up unexpectedly, so imagine our delight when make-up retailer Sephora teamed up with color masters Pantone to create the SEPHORA+PANTONE UNIVERSE. The entire pop up store is shaped like the iconic fan-out color guide, featuring exclusive items with the 2012 Color of the Year PANTONE® 17-1463 Tangerine Tango. Currently in New York, the store moves to The Grove in Los Angeles, where it will stay for a week starting April 16th. We’ll see you there!

From one eccentric Brit to another – Helena Bonham Carter makes a very convincing (if a little naughty) librarian in the video for Rufus Wainwright’s latest release ‘Out of the Game’.  The single comes from the new album of the same name, which has been produced by pop’s boy wonder himself, Mark Ronson. If this is a taste of things to come from Wainwright, we’ll be keeping an ear out for his next releases.

On Sunday, we’ll be scouting for the sweet surprises the Easter Bunny has left for us… but did you know that the cotton-tailed choco-hopper has a few surprises of his own? Not only is the Easter Bunny real, he’s also Australian and spends his free time with the other Guardians: The Tooth fairy, The Sandman and Father Christmas. Don’t believe us? This week sees the high-flying launch of CircusFest 2012 at the Roundhouse in London. The fun-filled, five-week festival features the best contemporary circus acts from around the world. Touted as the hottest tickets in London this April, we’re trying to decide which of the amazing acts we’ll be unicycling to first.

When we’re not swinging from a trapeze at The Roundhouse we’ll be making our way to the Tate Modern to celebrate one of the most influential artists of our generation. The Damien Hirst retrospective, opening next Wednesday, brings together key works from the past 20 years, including the sculpture ‘The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living’ and signature spot and spin paintings. If you have a thirst for Hirst, this is a can’t-miss opportunity.

New York-based singer Regina Spektor has teamed up with Adria Petty (the brains behind Beyoncé’s hit video “Countdown”) to bring the worlds of music and art together. Petty created this beautiful stop-frame story to accompany Spektor’s latest single “All the Rowboats.”

Many artists are lucky to get their 15 minutes in the spotlight, but Madonna – the undeniable Queen of Pop – is here to stay. Marking the release of her new (and controversial) album MDNA is weekend anthem “Girl Gone Bad.” Restricted by YouTube for it’s raunchy content, this video proves that even at 53, Madonna’s still on top of pop.

Another artist showcasing their ferocious dance moves is African musician D’BANJ. Signed to Kanye West’s label GOOD music, his new single “Oliver Twist” fuses African beats with hip hop, creating a sound set to take over dance floors this summer. See if you can spot Mr. West’s cameo in the video:

As secret Twilight fans (well, some less secret than others), we couldn’t ignore the first teaser for the final installment of the bloody good vampire saga. The movie might not be out until November, but the countdown has well and truly started. Twihards, rejoice!

Another noteworthy movie announcement is the long-awaited return of the Action 4 news team, led by star anchorman Ron Burgundy . On Wednesday, Will Ferrell (in all his Burgundy glory) made an appearance on Conan‘s late night talk show to personally proclaim that the sequel to Anchorman has been green lit by Paramount Pictures. Spread the news.

And finally, as the sun begins to shine in London (it never really stops in LA), our thoughts turn to sitting outside with a good book. Briefs Encountered by writer/comedian Julian Clary is described as “wondrous and witty.” This ghost story crept to the top of our reading list and is worth a closer encounter.

It’s not easy for the postal system to compete with the digital age, but it’s not impossible. The latest Royal Mail stamps celebrate Britain’s most beloved comics, including their longest running series ‘The Dandy’ , which celebrates its 75th birthday this year. Looking good for 75.

Speaking of anniversary celebrations, Alexsandro Palombo caught our eye this week with a Simpsons  high-fashion makeover, helping our favorite yellow family celebrate their 25th and final season in style. We can’t pick just one favorite, but we’re leaning towards the Marc Jacobs Homer.

The Modfather himself, Mr Paul Weller, is back with his new single ‘Green.’ The track speaks for itself, but what’s really turning heads is the psychedelic video created by Ruffmercy. You know you’ve got it made when they start printing your face on money.

From old school to new skool – London band White Powder Gold has been making some serious noise in the urban music scene. The 4 piece draw their inspiration from a range of  genres, resulting in a sound that mixes all the best bits together. May 14 sees the release of their second single ‘Rock N Rolla,’ a track that delivers all the swagger you’d expect from the title.

Also likely to make a seismic impact are 3 wild party animals the world has come to know and love. The Madagascar bunch are out of the Central Park Zoo, and we’re ready to follow them on their next big adventure.

Finally, we finish with a few more animated animals. ‘Small Hands’ is the new single from Keaton Henson and (thanks to director Joseph Mann) is accompanied by one of the most touching videos we have seen in a long time. Set your heart to “Break.”

The multimedia SXSW Festival took Austin by storm as it becomes our annual focus for all things new and influential in the world of music, film and interactivity. We were pleased to see that New Zealand born singer Kimbra has made quite a noise at this week’s event. She came to FIVE33’s attention last year and soon became a household favorite when she joined forces with Gotye on the song “Somebody That I Used to Know”.  As a result of her success there is no question that her debut album “Settle Down” is going to see a boost in sales. Don’t believe us?  Check out her single, also called “Settle Down” and experience all Kimbra’s quirky loveliness for yourself.

Here at FIVE33 we were very pleased to see that one film in particular had made it to SXSW. The much anticipated  “Casa De mi Padre” features Will Ferrell in the central role of this Spanish language comedy.  Described as cross between “Blazing Saddles” and Latin-American Telenovelas, they had us at the trailer.

Never ones to shy away from innovation, Marvel unveiled their first Augmented Reality app for comic books this week at SXSW. Coinciding with the “Marvel ReEvolution” (which already has the comic world abuzz), fans will be able to discover the full extent of the app with the release of Avengers Vs. X-Men #1 on April 4. As Marvel embark on the biggest story they’ve ever told, the app will enable fans to unlock a much deeper experience including new footage and interviews with the comic creators. Stepping into the world of superheroes just got a whole lot easier!

Frequent visitors to the Friday Fix will know that we are partial to a fashion film, so imagine our excitement when we heard about Selfridges’ Film Project. Created to mark the release of the Women’s Designer Galleries at their flagship store in London, the retailer has commissioned designers to create short films which explore their take on today’s modern woman. Currently on display at The Old Selfridges Hotel until March 25, the videos are also available online. Though each video truly is a piece of art, our favorite comes from Gareth Pugh and his long time collaborator Ruth Hogben.

And finally, we bring you the dizzying delights of Hot Chip’s latest video “Flutes” – if this doesn’t signal the start of your weekend nothing will.

This week’s Fix kicks off with the boldest and brightest music video we’ve seen this year. Not only does it feature the coming together of multiple music talents (The Gorillaz, James Murphy of LCD Sound System and Andre 3000), it also heralds the arrival of the hottest streetwear collaboration of the season. ‘DoYaThing’, the latest installment of the Converse ‘3 Artists. 1 Song’ Project, marks the launch of the exclusive Gorillaz-inspired Chuck Taylors, so you can rock the beat on your feet.

Our favorite European men’s magazine Numéro Homme launches its S/S 2012 edition this week featuring 3 beautifully shot covers by photographer Matthew Brookes. It’s the perfect way to start Spring in style.

This week LACMA debuts a new installation by artist Michael Heizer aptly named ‘Levitated Mass’, which features a 340-ton granite megalith perched over a 456-foot long slot. The ambitious project, conceived in 1969, boasts the largest boulder relocation since ancient times. As this huge rock moves across California to its final destination, local communities are holding ‘Rock Parties’ as the movers close down roads to transport it. The finished product is a true marvel – just don’t get your arm pinned under it for 127 hours.

Paris Fashion Week went out in style with the opening of a major retrospective at the Les Arts Décoratifs wing of the world famous Louvre. ‘Louis Vuitton: The Trunk Show’ showcases the original trunks created by Vuitton himself and celebrates the past 15 years with Creative Director Marc Jacobs at the helm. If you’re thinking of traveling to the City of Lights to see for yourself, we recommend booking a ticket on The LV Train, unveiled this past week.

When it comes to food, Chef Heston Blumenthal is the king of culinary innovation. To whip up excitement amongst visitors to his restaurant The Fat Duck , customers will be sent a link to an ‘online anticipatory experience’ 1 month before their reservation. The wait time is up to 2 months for a table, but in the meantime the making-of video is sure to whet your appetite:

As social media becomes the ultimate marketplace for both products and people, one initiative sets out to sell social action. The evocative awareness video for Invisible Children‘s controversial ‘KONY 2012′ campaign has been watched by over 55 million viewers in the past 5 days alone. The powerful and poignant effort to make Kony a ‘celebrity’ is stirring up the online audience (with both huge support and huge criticism around the initiative), but will the world wake up to streets covered with KONY 2012 posters on April 21? Only time will tell.
